Probus clubs were first formed, as an acronym for Pro(fessional) and Bus(iness), in the early 1920’s.
Probus Clubs worldwide are not service organizations and are non-sectarian and non-political, although members are largely active volunteers in many community organizations. Clubs are formed to provide social events and schedule speakers to keep members up to date with community issues and happenings. Many members have formed smaller interest groups for hobbies such as sports, entertainment, bridge playing, fishing, travel, computers, etc.
You can find out more about Probus by visiting their national website at http://www.probus.org/canada.
Our Club launched in 2013, sponsored by Probus Gateway. Our initial development meeting was held in the Craigleith Schoolhouse. In a few short years, our Club has grown from an initial 50 members to 300 members. To help meet the growing demand for membership, our Club sponsored the development of two other Probus Clubs in the Collingwood area – Probus Lighthouse which launched operations in late 2015 and Probus Four Season in 2017.
Our Probus Mountain View Club is known for its active membership and abundance and variety of social activities that range from skiing to book clubs, golf tournaments and summer BBQs.
To protect the privacy of our members, we do not publish Club members e-mail addresses on the website. If you are a Probus Mountain View Club member, you receive an updated membership list on a yearly basis. Members can also access the membership list by clicking on the ‘Members Only’ tab.
Membership is currently full but will be reviewed, and any vacancies declared at the beginning of June, each year. At that time an opportunity to enter you name on a “Waiting List” will be offered.
The annual membership fee is $55.00 which covers the cost of room rental fees, AV equipment and honorariums for guest speakers and other related expenses. There is a one-time fee of $20.
