Welcome to the 2020-2021 Probus year. Although it will look a little different, your social team is working on ideas to get us back together, whether it be socially or actively, in a responsible way under the present Provincial Co-Vid restrictions. Over time we hope that regulation changes will allow us to offer bigger events in the future.
Allow me to keep you up to date on what is happening now.
First, “Let’s Get Going” is a new sign up allowing members to make connections with others that are interested in the same activities. It also allows individuals to control the size of the group they are comfortable with. A little more effort is required on your part but will lead to fun times in an active way.
We are planning to offer small art classes, Christmas Urn making or pottery painting, etc. in very small groups as long as we have an instructor and a location.
“Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” is being re-worked and we hope to offer a dining experience soon. Watch for an announcement on this in October.
C&C will have a late start this year probably in January within the rules set out by Stage 3.
We are brainstorming some outdoor events, perhaps around a fire pit or historic walks.
We have re-booked a Halloween Dinner, Christmas Dinner Dance, Ladies Christmas Lunch and Golf tournament for the 2021-22 year. The Fashion Swap will hopefully be rescheduled soon.
Our book club organizers are going to reach out to their members to see if they are interested in restarting either through zoom, in back yards or inside.
The Camera Club is happy to welcome new members to the group. Contact Adrian O’Connor if you are interested.
Bob Baker has passed on the leadership of the Travel Club to Paul Bartola. Paul is just starting to see how to do a virtual meeting. Thanks to Bob for all that he has done over the years and to Paul for taking on this project. If you are interested in doing a presentation please contact Paul.
Sadly, at this time we are unable to enjoy the men’s and ladies darts or the billiards. Hopefully that will change in the near future.
We will be doing everything we can to give you an opportunity to stay connected in some way. If you have any ideas or would like to help please contact Peggy at psturch@gmail.com , Sue at suetheo@msn.com or any member of the social committee that you might know. We are very aware of the comfort level of different individuals with regards to social connections and personal distancing. Only you can decide on what activities you feel comfortable participating in.
On behalf of the social committee, please stay safe and enjoy some time with other Probus members.
